4 POWERFUL HOME REMEDIES FOR SORE THROAT

sore-throat-home-remedies

Having a sore throat can be a really disturbing experience especially when it’s going on for days. At times, instead of it getting better as the days go by, they sometimes get worse. It’s a condition that is common across all age groups and almost everyone must have had it at one point in their lives or the other. In fact, for some people, it’s a condition they have to live with on periodic basis as it keeps coming back especially during particular times of the year when the weather is cold, dry and harsh.

Sore throat is a pretty normal experience and it normally should last only a few days if there are no other underlying physiological conditions causing it. But despite the fact that it’s always a short term experience, it’s always very unpleasant too as it could make people feel tired and weak, lose appetite, and some other symptoms like pain in the throat which is usually very unpleasant are some characteristics of sore throat. I need not add that the pain can be very annoying too as we all do a great deal every day. Imagine having to go through pains during each one of those swallows, not to talk of the inability to eat. Even your favorite meal!

The good news is that sore throats don’t have to weigh you down anymore as there are lots of remedies for it. This means that you don’t even need to go and see a doctor before your sore throat heals! And the best part? Most of these remedies are home remedies! Below are a few remedies you can try in order to soothe your sore throat.

1.     Gargling with warm salt water

This is probably the first thing you will hear most people say to you if you complain of sore throat, especially around old people. The truth is that they are actually very right. Warm salt water works very well against sore throats. The salt in the water helps with the inflammation in your throat and make it to shrink thereby giving you a relief. It washes away excess mucous and if you have a stuffy nose, it will help your stuffy nose to drain properly.

One cup of warm (not hot) water and half teaspoon of table salt will be enough. Pour the salt in the hot water, mix it with a clean spoon, and make sure the salt is well dissolved in the warm water. Gargle the warm water throughout the day. Just make sure the salt and water mixture is not more than stipulated so as not to worsen matters.

2.     Garlic!

I know this is going to sound repulsive considering garlic’s reputation for bad odors. Not everyone is a big fan of garlic, but if you want fast relief from your sore throat, you really need garlics. At least till the sore throat completely heals. Garlic contains allicin which is the active ingredient against sore throat. It acts very fast and it is very powerful too.

In order to make garlics useful for your sore throat, you can slowly chew two garlic or suck on them while biting them lightly in order to release the allicin. Whatever method you choose, allicin will be released from the garlic and your sore throat will be packing off! Simply suck on two garlics twice a day.

3.     Drink ginger

Ginger has a lot of pain relieving properties and it works excellently against cold too. Since most sore throats and cold commonly appear together, drinking ginger is a good way of combating the two! Ginger also boosts circulation, expels toxins and speeds up the healing process. Its anti-inflammatory properties will also help to relief the soreness in your throat.

All you will need is a two-inch long fresh ginger root, honey and 2-3 cups of water.

You need to Wash the ginger root really thoroughly, then you have to peel it. Slice it into really tiny pieces, then you place it on a cutting board and cover it with some wax paper. After that, crush it with anything you have that can be used for that purpose. I’m sure you will find something. The next thing is to boil your water boil for about 3 to 5 minutes. Then just pour it in cup with ginger and drink it. dont drink it too hot, that is never good for sore throat, so let be for few minutes until it has better temperature. You can also add some honey or sugar if you need, but I prefer it “natural”, without adding anything.

4.     Drink cinnamon

The truth is that you should avoid spicy foods when your throat hurts, but there are actually some spices that are handy when fighting the illness. One of them is ginger (which I already talked about) another one is cinnamon which is a home remedy that helps relieve some of the pain of a sore throat especially if it is the result of a cold. It is extremely high in anti-oxidants, and its aroma often times helps to open up the sinuses, which lessens the production of mucus and helps you breathe a little easier.

All you will need is: 1-2 cinnamon sticks, 1 and a half cups of boiling water and any herbal green tea of your choice. Honey could come in handy too.

Bring water to a boil and add the cinnamon. Boil for about 2-3 minutes, and then remove the cinnamon. Add your choice of herbal or green tea in the cinnamon water, drink, and enjoy!

There are lots of other home remedies that could be used against sore throat, some of them will be discussed later in the future. But on a final note, I will like to include one important thing that should be avoided when having sore throats and that is irritants! It may look like stating the obvious but some people are not aware of it.

Now you know what it takes to kick out sore throats, so next time you have one (I hope you don’t, but if you eventually do, or you actually have one now) just make use of these home remedies simply kick it out of your system! You can also drop comments to let us know which home remedy actually worked to combat your sore throat!

8 Best Home And Natural Remedies For Gas And Bloating

8 best home and natural remedies for gas and bloating

Topic of this article might be quite awkward, but it is something with what almost everyone has problem sometimes and it is not always just something little unpleasant, but it can be also pretty painful. I think everyone should know that there is no need to suffer and there are great natural, cheap solutions how to get rid of gas and bloating.

First is important to know that it is never good to hold the gas, but of course there se many situations in life when you just cannot let ’em go, but when you can, go to bathroom or anywhere where its possible and let the gas go. Now lets take a look at those 10 best home and natural remedies for gas and bloating.

1. Ginger

In fact I’m drinking ginger tea right now when I’m writing this. Not only it has great taste, but it has so many health benefits that I would really like to suggest it to everyone. One of the greatest benefits of ginger is that it is absolutely great to calm your digestive system and it almost does not matter what caused the problem.

Characteristic odor and taste of ginger is caused by a mixture of gingerols, shogaols and zingerone.  In tests on laboratory animals, the gingerols showed that they increase the motility of the gastrointestinal tract, have great analgesic, sedative, antipyretic and also antibacterial properties. Ginger just perfectly relax intestinal tract and prevents the formation of gas in your intestines.

How to make ginger tea? It is really extremely simple. Just cut small piece of ginger, peel the skin and then slice 5-7 quarter sized pieces, put them in mug and pour very hot water, almost boiling. Then wait about ten minutes and so and you have delicious drink that will help you with your gas and bloating, but also other digestion problems.

You do not of course need to make tea, you can just eat small piece of ginger and it will also help.

Or you can try this, if you don’t always have fresh ginger at home. I love this tea!

2. Diet And Excercise

I know that many people just hate these two words, but it is simply truth that healthy diet and excercise are probably the most important factors when it comes to prevention of most health problems and they are also the most important factor in prevention of gas and bloating. it is very simple, gas is of course caused mostly by diet and also your lifestyle.

Which Foods Causes Gas?

First it is important to understand that every person is different, more precisely everyone has slightly different digestive tract. It depends on two main factors – how well you digest carbohydrates and what kinds of bacteria lives in your intestines. That is the reason why after certain foods some people might get terrible problems with gas and bloating and someone else not. the biggest poroblems are all foods that contains lot of carbohydrates mostly breads, cereals and pastas. Here is short list of foods that are well known for causing gas and bloating:

  • artificial sweeteners like xylitol, mannitol, sorbitol
  • milk and milk products – everything that contains lactose, for many people it is hard to digest because of lack of enough lactase, which is enzyme needed to properly digest lactose
  • sodas, drinks with fruit juice – especially those very sweet juices like apple and pear juice, they add to those corn syrup, which causes lot of gas and bloating
  • fruits – especially pears, but also apples, peaches
  • beans
  • asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, brussels sprouts, onions, mushrooms, artichokes
  • bread, cereals, pastas, oats

 3.Warm Lemon Water

Do you know what is lemon water? It is exactly the same thing as it sounds. Lemon water is very easily to prepare, just cut three average slices of lemon and squeeze it into glass of really warm water, stir and drink whole glass.

How this helps with gas and bloating? It is very simple. Acidity in lemon stimulates production of hydrochlorid acid in your body and this acid helps to digest food. Better digested food means much leass gas and bloating. Lemon water has also other health benefits, it detoxifies your body, because it helps liver enzymes work more efficient.

4. Eat Right

Not only what you eat, but also how you eat it affects your digestion a lot. Most important is to eat slowly and chew food thoroughly. Chewing is no miracle remedy for gas and bloating, but when you eat slowly and chew food really thorougly, you help your body digest food better and faster, which means less gas and bloating. Proper chewing is not the only important thing you should do (or shouldn’t) while eating to get rid of problems with gas.

What you should avoid:

  • drinking extremely cold or hot beverages
  • eating too much, big portions
  • using a straw
  • eating while you are upset
  • eating and talking in the same time
  • drinking from water fountain

5. Peppermint Tea

Peppermint has relaxing and antispasmodic properties, so it can help relieve spasms in your gastrointestinal tract. It helps food to pass (also swallowed air) right through your digestive tract, but that is not all what peppermint can do to reduce gas and bloating.

Essential oils found in peppermint stimulates your gallbladder to release more bile which helps your body with digesting fats. It also helps your liver, it has detoxifying effect on it and even it might seem this has nothing to do with digestion, it is not truth. Liver that is well functioning is vital for good digestion and therefore means also less gas and bloating.

 6. Chamomile Tea

Here is another tea that can help you to get rid of gas and bloating. Peppermint tea is maybe something what not everyone likes and if that is for any reason your case, you can try chamomile tea instead.

Chamomile has antispasmotic, anti-inflammatory and relaxing properties which can all help you with gas and bloating, however peppermint is still stronger. If you can use ppermint tea, chamomile tea is then something like second best option.

7. Anise

I love the smell of anise, but I have to admit that I did not know it can be also helpful when you have problems with gas.

Anise is botanically known as Pimpinella anisum. It is an annual herb native to the Mediterranean  region and Middle East. Anethole is the most pharmacologically active ingredient you can find in the seeds. In fact it comprises 75 to 90% of seeds content.

The use of anise as a digestive aid is in fact nothing new. In fact humans use it probably for thousands of years, so it must have positive effects. Use of  anise we are sure about dates back to ancient Rome, where anise cakes were served after their famous huge feasts. Anise has some significant antispasmodic effects, which allows it to relax intestinal muscles and thus relieve gas, bloating and also cramps.

8. Activated Charcoal

This is not home remedy, but definetely natural remedy for gas and bloating and in my opinion probably the most powerful one. It belongs among my personal favorites and it has helped me many times in my life with various digestive problems and abdominal pain, especially in childhood, but also as adult I found it very efficient.

Activated charcoal is in fact carbon that has been treated with oxygen. To make activated charcoal, manufacturers heat common charcoal in the presence of  gas that causes the charcoal to develop lots of very small internal spaces – pores.  This treatment results in extremely porous charcoal, it gives the charcoal surface area of 300-2,000 m2/g! This allows gases to pass through the charcoal and interact with the exposed carbon. It can somehow “trap” chemicals. It works by absorbing chemicals, thus reducing their toxicity (poisonous nature), through the entire length of the stomach and small and large intestines (GI tract). The same way it can absorb various swallowed poisons, it can also absorb gas created by bacteria in our intestines.

Activated charcoal is used mostly to treat poisoning, reduce flatulence (gas), lower your cholesterol levels, treat bile flow problems and also it can prevent hangovers.

For gas and bloating relieve, usually only 2-3 capsules are enough. Do not use it hour before or hour after taking medication, since this can adsorb any chemicals. It is also not good to use it long term every day, because it can prevent absorbtion of nutrients.

All time classic, what more to write about it? It just works and especially when your stomach is upset, it might be one of the few things you can get in your body without problems.

8. Kudzu Extract

Kudzu has some bad reputation and probably it deserves it as it is in some places invasive species which does bad to local special, but it is not only bad, in fact, it can help you with your hangover. Kudzu is a climbing, coiling, and trailing vinenative to southern Japan and south east China. Its name comes from the Japanese name for the plant, kuzu. Where it occurs as an invasive species, it is considered a noxious weed that climbs over trees or shrubs and grows so rapidly, it kills them by shading. The plant is in fact edible, but usually sprayed with herbicides in these locations. Studies have shown that its isoflavones, diadzin and puerarin, can help relieve hangovers quickly! This doesn’t exactly stop you from getting a hangover, it’s more like the hangover starts developing while you’re still drinking, so you drink less and it’s not as bad. Some researchers think that kudzu actually increases the damage that the alcohol does to your body though, so you might want to try the other preventatives first, and only use the kudzu if they don’t work for you.I really don’t know if it is good idea to take Kudzu whil still drinking ar when you already have hangover, you will have to try by yourself probably.

9. Prickly Pear Cactus

Extract of this cactus has been found to help with hangover nausea and dry mouth symptoms according to scientists at Tulane University and the University of California. Prickly pear is well known to reduce inflammation, and hangover symptoms are due to an increase in inflammation in your body. Scientists found that C-reactive protein, a marker for inflammation, was in fact 40% higher in the group that took a placebo. These are pretty shocking results that shows how well prickly pear cactus works. Very important is to use this extract BEFORE you are drinking (at least few hours). If you do, then your hangover will be much less severe.

10. Activated Charcoal

Activated charcoal has many uses, but most if you probably use it for stomach aches. Well, not so many people knows that you can use it as well to prevent hangovers. When you are drinking, eat also charcoal with every drink. Charcoal absorbs the impurities in the alcoholic beverages which are contributing in hangovers. It works really very well, but don’t take it too often, because charcoal also absorbs many for your body important nutrients.
